Malaysia’s First Pickleball Grand Slam: A Game-Changer For Sports Tourism
Malaysia is gearing up to host the MATTA Malaysia Pickleball Grand Slam 2025 (MPG2025), the country's first international pickleball tournament, from October 7-20, 2025. Set at PIKABOL in Kuching, Sarawak, this landmark event is expected to place Malaysia firmly on the global sports tourism map, attracting top international players and visitors.
A Milestone For Sports Tourism In Malaysia
Endorsed by the Malaysia Pickleball Association, Sarawak Pickleball Association, and Kuching Pickleball Association, the tournament is supported by key government ministries, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak.
MATTA President Nigel Wong shared, “The Grand Slam will not only boost Malaysia’s profile on the international sports scene but will also encourage inbound and domestic tourism, offering players and visitors the chance to explore our culture, landscapes, and warm hospitality.”
Tournament Highlights
With an anticipated 1,350 participants and over 2,600 visitors, the MPG2025 will offer a RM100,000 prize pool—the largest in the region. The tournament will feature team events from October 7-13, followed by individual competitions (including a Junior Category) from October 15-20.
The event is expected to generate an estimated RM31.6 million in tourism spending, positioning Malaysia as a premier sports tourism hub in Asia.
